Important Updates From Our Executive Committee🚂

The Charleston Area Model Railroad Club has been part of the Lowcountry community since 1983.

What began as a small group of train enthusiasts grew into a place where creativity, craftsmanship, and a shared love of railroading could be enjoyed by generations of visitors.

Since 2009, our home at Citadel Mall has welcomed families, hobbyists, and curious visitors to experience the magic of model trains. Every mountain, building, and mile of track on the layout was built by our members with care and dedication.

As the future of the Citadel Mall changes, we have been informed that our time in this space will soon come to an end. Our final public days at the mall will be the weekend of April 11–12 & April 14th when the last trains will run on the layout in its current home.

While this chapter is closing, the Charleston Area Model Railroad Club is not going away. Our members are actively working to secure a new location so we can preserve the layout and continue sharing the hobby with the community.

We encourage everyone to come visit the layout while it is still running and help us celebrate the memories built here over the past 16 years.

How Can You Help Us With This Temporary Derailment?

While we work toward securing a new home for the Charleston Area Model Railroad Club, there are several ways the community can help keep our trains running.

🚂 Visit the Layout Before We Move
Come see the layout at Citadel Mall while it is still operating. Bring your family, invite friends, and help us celebrate the memories built here over the past 16 years.

🏢 Know a Possible Space?
We are actively searching for a new location in the Charleston area. If you know of a warehouse, storefront, or community space that could house our layout, please reach out to us. (CLICK HERE)

🤝 Become a Member🔗
Our club is powered entirely by volunteers and members who love the hobby. New members are always welcome—whether you’re an experienced modeler or just curious about trains.

📣 Spread the Word
Follow us on social media and share our story. The more people who know about our situation, the better chance we have of finding a new home.

Community support helps us preserve the layout and continue our mission of sharing model railroading with future generations.

The Charleston Area Model Railroad Club gladly accepts donations to help support the club and its activities. Contributions can include:

Monetary donations to assist with moving, storage, and future layout construction
Model trains, rolling stock, and railroad equipment
Railroad memorabilia, books, and hobby materials
Moving and packing supplies, such as boxes, packing materials, bubble wrap, storage bins, shelving, and other items that can help safely transport and store parts of the layout.

Donated items may be used on the layout, for educational purposes, or sold to help fund the club’s continued operation.

If you would like to make a donation or discuss an item you wish to contribute, please contact us or speak with one of our members during visiting hours.

Something For Everyone

Maybe you're new in town, looking for a train club to check out and join; visiting Charleston; here for a cruise or a snooze; in town for work and looking for something to do; a mom with kiddos; parents with kids; grandparents with grandkids; or just someone who has an interest in the miniature world of trains. We have three big operating layouts in N, HO, and O scale with interactive buttons to push. There's cities to see, farms to gaze, go exploring, find coal mines, waterfalls, critters, history, and more. No matter who you are, we're glad to have you stop in.

There's definitely 'Something For Everyone' to see and do.

Any and all donations, both monetary, and model railroad items, are very much appreciated. Donations help our club survive and help us continue to spread the word about the model railroading hobby. As always, all donations are tax decutable, as we are a 501(c)3 organization.

Buying & Selling Trains

As a 501(c)3 organization, we rely on member dues and outside contributions to sustain our organization. As a club operating scale model layouts for the public, we are not staffed nor able to buy & sell trains. There are several outlets in the area, and we encourage supporting them when shopping for a trainset.
